August 13, Lay over day at Waterford NY

After  a great breakfast we decided to go for a walk about Waterford. Jennie wanted to do laundry so we would meet up later.
We decided to walk to Cohoes Falls, about 3 miles away. Good old Google maps does a great job of using trails when available.
Along our walk we saw some beautiful old homes.
Waterford is celebrating their 200th year. Fred told us before we left that he heard from a friend that there are many different items about town and we should keep an eye out for.
I am so glad someone is keeping this house nice so that we can enjoy it.
The homes were really nice and this one is for sale right now.
Our first of many encounters that Fred was talking about.
This must be their surveillance system.
This had to be one of the scariest gargoyles I have seen climbing up a house.
This one is on the same house over the front porch.
They also had two lions, I guess they are really protected.
Down the street a little was Yoga Bear.
And we caught "Sal" the  mule that had escaped canal duty before she did her 15 miles.
Click on link to hear about navigating on the erie canal.

This was a large factory powered by water power, now condos.
Another old factory turned into condos.
I am guessing this is the founder of the company.
Who knew.
Cohoes Falls park, a little hard to find.
This and the next two pics showing how they used the water power of the falls.

If it was not for Niagra being so large people would want too come here to enjoy these.
Another shot of the falls.

  • A movie so that you hear the sound of the falls that were probably a mile away.

Cute chick at the falls.
Old man and the falls

Old man and cute chick.
We watched the young guy crank on this old ford for 5 minutes and he did finally get it to go. It did kick back on him a couple of times. Mr. Patterson did us a big favor with the electric start.
Again Fred was right there was a few things in the town that you just had to wonder about.

As we walked back from the falls we went through a state park and saw a fawn. After a minute of looking at this one another one right next to him stood up. We did not see the second one at all until it stood up.
A waterford is a place that you can get across a river.
This is a pic looking down the last of the Mohawk river where it meets the Hudson River.
Fred checking the lines on the boat, we have another storm coming.
Fred is not sure about the mule, he is a democrat.
 Whoa mule.
 Getty up mule.
Mule,  I had my mouth open and everything.
