We left Baldwinville, NY early and started our journey to go across Oneda Lake. Nice row of pines on the right approaching the lock.
As you can see there is good info on these signs.
Before we started across Lake Oneida will filled up with 17 gallons of diesel, first since Buffalo , getting about 14 mpg.
We not only got fuel, but they had tomatoes, basil and peppers.
Yummy
We got ice too, but you can also see all of the planter boxes.
Lighthouse on the west end of lake Oneida.
Lake Onieda is 20 miles long and sometimes is so rough the state boats will not go out on it. We were lucky the wind was on our nose and very little waves. We all found those 20 miles very boring.
A Catalina sailboat next to us
On the east side is Sylvan Beach.
Our friends Pam and Don used to have a little boat like this. All four of us would get in and go around the canals of Lake Erie. This dog warned us about Ewoks on our journey, beware.
Jennie was looking at a bigger boat and a little older. This boat was 109 years old.
Two old people trying to get out the door at the same time.
Jennie talking to Mike that lives on the Unger and uses it to show 4th graders about the canal and the boats used.
She is a beauty, but going in for a complete refit at the end of the year.
We had to do a little refit ourselves. My friend Jim R will recognize this. We were lucky. Called a marina just before closing and he brought it to us.
On August 10th we left Sylvan Beach. Our first lock was a larger drop than usual and leaked a lot.
Jennie is enjoying her coffee in the rain.
Lock after
Lock.
A state canal boat on the hard
We made it to Utica NY.
Nice place to stop and have lunch.
Locks are becoming old hat.
Another state canal working boat.
A tour boat behind us going through a lock
We make it Little Falls, NY and they are having "Canal Day"
Fireworks and food.
OOH
ahhhhh
WOW
BANG
Little history on how they built the canal.
We found him, he painted himself white and thought we would not see him. He had Fred's lost uncle George hostage and behind bars.
Did not seem that George minded it too bad.
Many of the buildings we fancy in the town. They had a large cheese business in town that is no more.
The Falls were very pretty. Jennie wanted to shoot them with the boat, but I said no.
The Chalk family said bye to us as we approached the boat. Not sure about the second one from the left.
Winnetou seems happy at Little Falls
The new plug worked great and we have air, all is good.
